Enable two-factor authentication (2FA)

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication, also known as 2FA or two-step authentication, is a security measure that requires two different forms of identification when you sign in: your password and an additional code generated by an app on your phone.

This provides an extra layer of protection for your Zru account.

🧐 Once you enable it, your panel password no longer expires every 90 days. We explain why in this guide.

What you need before you start

An authenticator app on your phone that generates TOTP codes. The panel suggests Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator and Authy, but any TOTP app works, including password managers such as 1Password.

How to enable two-step authentication

  • Click your avatar in the top right corner and select "My account".
  • Scroll to "Credentials and security" and turn on the "Two-step authentication" switch.
  • A three-step wizard opens: "Install app", "Scan QR" and "Verify".

Step 1. Install app

  • If you do not have an app yet, install one of the options the panel suggests.
  • If you already have one, click "I already have an app installed".

Step 2. Scan QR

  • Open your authenticator app, choose the scan option and point it at the QR code.
  • If you cannot scan it, copy the code shown below the QR and enter it manually in the app.
  • Click "I have scanned it".

Step 3. Verify

  • Type the 6-digit code from your app into the "Authentication code" boxes. They move forward as you type and you can also paste the full code at once.
  • Click "Enable authentication".

⚠️ When you finish, your recovery codes appear once and only once. Save them somewhere safe: they are the only way to recover your account if you lose access to your authenticator app.

🧐 This is the same wizard you will see if the panel asks you to deal with an expired password.

How to disable two-step authentication

  • Click your avatar ▶︎ "My account".
  • Scroll to "Credentials and security" and turn off the "Two-step authentication" switch.
  • Enter the code from your app and confirm.

✋ If you disable it, your password starts expiring every 90 days again.
