# Customize error messages

# What are error messages?

Every error Zru returns has an error code attached (for example `MC2P-02003` or `MC2P-07003`). By default, when an operation fails the customer sees a generic Zru message. This section lets you **override that message** with your own text in several languages, aligned with your brand voice.

# How to reach Error messages

- Go to **Settings** in the side menu.
- Click the **"Error messages"** tile.

# The message list

From the list you can search messages by code or by text. For each message you will see three columns: **Code** (the error code it overrides), **Text** (the beginning of the custom text) and **Languages** (the flags of the languages it is set up in).

# How to create a custom message

- Click **"New message"** at the top right.
- The **Add** modal opens.
- Pick the **Error code** you want to override. You can check the full list of codes at [docs.zrupay.com/tools/errors](http://docs.zrupay.com/tools/errors).
- Write the custom text in the languages you need. There is one field for each of the **9 available languages**: Spanish, English, Portuguese, Catalan, German, Italian, French, Galician and Basque.
- Click **"Create"**.

# Typical use cases

- Rephrase technical messages in plain language. For example, a 3DS authentication error can be replaced with "We could not verify your card. Please try another one."
- Add instructions for the customer to contact your support team.
- Adapt the tone to your audience (B2B, B2C, regulated industries...).

# Connection with Statistics

The **Statistics** ▶︎ **Optimization** section includes the **Errors by type** block, which shows which codes are happening most often in your account and what percentage each one represents. Those are the priority candidates to customize here: if one code accounts for most of your errors, a clear message can reduce customer friction and improve conversion.
